EMERALD ASH BORER HAS BEEN SPOTTED IN WINNIPEG
Wednesday February 21st 7:00 PM
Cooks Creek Community Centre
The emerald ash borer (EAB) is a highly destructive beetle that has already killed millions of ash trees in Ontario and north eastern United States. The attack on residential landscapes has been devastating and a financial burden on all Municipal holdings such as parks, playgrounds, cemeteries, wherever Ash Trees have been planted.
EAB was recently detected in Winnipeg. Once detected, it cannot be eradicated.
Effective immediately, the movement of ash materials, including logs, branches, woodchips, ash nursery stock/trees, and all species of firewood out of Winnipeg is restricted.
Fiona Ross, Sustainable Development (Mb Conservation formerly), will speak on the Emerald Ash Borer. This is an opportunity for ALL parties to learn firsthand of the invasive pest.
- How to identify the beetle
- Mitigate the problem,
- Are there any licensed preventative measures available?
Samples of the larvae and insect will be available for viewing
